SCOTTISH SLATE ROOFERS
INTERACTIVE TOOL · QUOTATIONS

Compare slate roof quotations side by side

Enter the scope offered by up to three contractors, see important omissions and print a practical comparison. The cheapest total may not cover the same work.

Scottish Slate Roofers editorial resource · Updated 21 October 2026 · Scotland
Important: This worksheet compares what quotes say, not the competence of their authors or the adequacy of a roof design. A ticked row does not prove the work will be performed. Keep original written quotations and ask a competent professional about contested scope.

1 · Enter the three quotations you want to compare

Names are optional. The tool runs only in your browser, does not send entries to SSR, and does not permanently store them. Use “Print worksheet” to keep a copy before leaving the page.

For each line, choose what the written quotation explicitly states. “Not stated” is not the same as “excluded”.

Scope / documentABC

VAT, payment stages and variations
Insurance, warranty and defects aftercare

2 · Compare specifications, not just totals

A quotation of £42,000 that omits scaffolding, chimney interfaces or a disputed timber allowance is not necessarily cheaper than an inclusive £47,000 proposal. Equally, a higher price does not prove better craftsmanship. Document any allowances and verify what will trigger an additional charge. The worksheet deliberately does not pick a winner or invent an adjustment for unknown work.

3 · Questions worth asking all bidders

  1. Which roof elevations and areas were inspected, and which parts were inaccessible?
  2. Can you specify the proposed slate, fixing method and the treatment of sound historic material?
  3. Are leadwork, valleys, dormers, chimneys, access, coverings and rubbish removal explicitly included?
  4. What provisional sums exist, and what written approval is needed for variations?
  5. What are the payment milestones, VAT treatment, programme and handover records?

Our contractor verification checklist examines qualifications and written commitments separately from price. Also see the full guide to comparing slate roof quotations.
