Traditional buildings need specialist care
Roofing work on older properties can involve natural slate, traditional timber construction, lead details and building fabric that should not be treated as a standard modern system. The proposed solution needs to respond to the condition and character of the individual roof.
Heritage and conservation considerations
If a property is listed or lies within a conservation area, tell us when you enquire. Depending on the scope, planning or listed-building consent may be relevant. Scottish Slate Roofers does not provide planning advice; property owners should obtain the appropriate independent or local-authority guidance where required.
Retaining sound historic material
On older slate roofs, complete replacement is not automatically the right answer. Sound existing material may sometimes be retained or reused, while failed areas, fixings, underlayers or associated leadwork are renewed. The final specification should follow a proper inspection of the building.
Our role
We assess the enquiry at a high level and, where suitable, invite a limited selection of independent specialist contractors to assess and quote. The property owner decides which proposal and contractor best suits the building and the work.
